Fashion That Has Staying Power
Every three months a new season begins, meaning new fashion trends emerge. Under normal circumstances it’s hard to keep up, but with today’s economy people need to stop splurging and start investing. Most people don’t view spending money on clothing as an investment, but I would like to counter that reaction by telling you that the way you dress is the most important part of a first impression. A potential employer, partner or friend is going to size you up within seconds, and I can promise you that looking your best is half the battle. So exactly what staples belong in your closet?

LBD’s that flatter your figure are an absolute must have in your closet. This Balenciaga frock is Audrey Hepburn-meets-the new girl on the Star Trek Voyager everyone wants to date.
Considering Mary Jane’s have been around since the early 1900’s, it’s safe to assume they’ve got some staying power. Traditionally made for younger girls with a very low heel, this shoe has definitely gone from girl-next-door to girl-next-whoa. While I’m all about a deal, when it comes to Christian Louboutin and a classic shoe it deserves a splurge; you will never put a sexier shoe on you foot.
I love the fact that over the years blazers have branched out of the ‘guys only’ club. You can scare your boss into thinking you’re interviewing for their job by looking insanely hot and professional at the same time, or you can dress it down with a pair of jeans or shorts, using the gorgeous Alexander Wang example above. Black, Navy, and Grey are all fantastic colors that will match anything in your closet. I have to admit I’m not crazy about pairing a blazer with any red carpet dress, but unfortunately there’s always going to be someone to take a good thing and turn it bad.

I have so much confidence in the pencil skirt that I am using an example from Moschino’s Fall 2006 collection. It makes skinny women look like they have curves, and curvy women look like J. Lo. The ultimate staple for going from work to play without changing a thing about your outfit; except maybe undoing your shirt a button or two.
They’re perfect for those rainy days, in-between seasons, and they look absolutely ferosh in bright and bold colors. A trench coat is so fashionable that with a pair of hot heels or boots it can literally be an outfit in itself. Look at this chick strutting her stuff in Bottega Veneta. I guarantee she has nothing on underneath, and why should she?

Last but not least, you need some great belts. They’re necessary because they hold your pants up when you’re having a skinny day, but even more so they make hourglass shapes look even more luscious, and those of us less fortunate appear as if we have one.
There are obvious items you already have, such as great fitting black pants, sexy black pumps and spanx, but if you don’t have any of the items listed above you must buy them. And if you do splurge on those Christian Louboutin Mary Janes and your partner is none too pleased, explain to them that it’s an investment, not a splurge – and if that doesn’t work, let them go buy a flat screen like I did with my fiance.

Deals and Steals Galore
Diane Von Furstenburg. Versace. Vera Wang. Why oh why must a girl living in a one bedroom apartment with her parents 25 year old hand me down furniture have such expensive taste? Because of sample sales, of course!
I, for one, am not a big fan of elbowing my way through the masses downtown to get to that DVF dress marked down 80%. What I am a fan of is high speed internet and my trusty ol' mouse to lead me to the promise land of the best deals on the net.
If you haven't heard of them yet, then I am honored to be the bearer of excellent news. There ARE sample sales on the internet, and they're easier to join than you think.
Hautelook, Ruelala, Ideeli, Gilt, and EditorsCloset are just a few sites offering top notch designer duds at slashed into pieces prices. The only problem is that they all require an invitation to join. What is a girl to do? Google it, of course!
Take a trip down google lane, type in any of the above sites with the word 'invite', and whalaa - instant access to one of the worst kept secrets on the internet. Happy shopping, and easy on the credit card - the prices may be low, but that doesn't mean your internet shopping cart will be by the time you're done.

Confessions of a Petite Curvy Girl

I got into a nice little debate with the girls over at The Purse Blog Forum the other day when trying to ID a pair of Kim Kardashian's jeans. I think people that are blessed with no ass have a hard time believing that someone can be born with that much junk in the trunk. I hate to burst your bubble, but it's true.
I have struggled for a long time trying to find a work wardrobe, and I am still in the process of perfecting it. When you have a large chest, tiny waist and even bigger behind all stacked onto a 5 foot 2 inch frame, shopping is a bitch.
And that, my friends, is why I love Banana Republic. I have tried on pants at every store you can imagine, every brand you can imagine, and once I slipped on a pair of Banana Republic's Jackson Fit petite pants, my search had ended. They hug my curves in all the right places, are the perfect length, and are literally the only item of clothing I have bought that I no longer have to try on, nor do I have to get them tailored.
And the best part about them is that their website always has some amazing items in their clearance section, and they sell items that are classics; i.e. they will never go out of style. I have yet to buy a pair of pants for full price.
Their website will never disappoint, however if you're planning on making your way into the store on your next shopping excursion make sure to call ahead; only some of their stores sell petite.
The Beginning
I've gone back and forth with this blog for some time, getting up to about 5 posts and wiping everything out to start over. The main reason for this is that I couldn't decide what I wanted to be - trendy, classic, penny pincher, label whore. I've finally come out of the closet and am ready to share it with the world.
